The Jacob Hummelbaugh farm

The Hummelbaugh farm served as one of the first Union field hospitals during the second day's fighting. It was here that Confederate General Wm. Barksdale died and was temporarily buried.

This 1901 view shows the house from nearly an identical vantage. The construction of Pleasonton Avenue is underway. Alfred Pleasonton was the chief of Union cavalry and briefly made his HQ here after the battle.
